This class is aimed at students/ entrepreneurs who are working in, or wondering what the difference is between early stage and growth-stage companies. As companies move past initial product testing, finding customer fit, and raising initial capital, they will face new challenges. This class will cover issues growth companies typically face, including recruiting, organizational structure, management, sales, marketing, infrastructure and acquisitions. Deven Parekh and John Maloney will use case studies to lead the session, and a Q&A session will conclude the class.

Deven Parekh is a Managing Director at Insight Venture Partners, a NY-based growth-stage minority or majority investor focused on software, internet, e-commerce and data businesses. Deven serves on the board and works closely with Tumblr, Chegg, Kony Solutions, Newegg, Buddy Media, and other companies.

John Maloney is President of Tumblr, one of the fastest growing microblog sites with over 40 million posts per day and 13 billion pageviews per month. John manages business operations, staffing, strategic growth, and capital raising at Tumblr, helping lead the company’s recent $85 million funding round. Prior to joining in 2008, he was Founder and CEO of UrbanBaby, which was acquired by CNET Networks in 2006.
